Case Study: International mediation training in Iraq

For our project partner CRISP, the project objective was to implement an international mediation program in Arabic in Iraq. The qualified trainers used the Consensus Curriculum on site, supported by the materials and templates provided. The focus of the training was on capacity building to ensure that participants acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to mediate conflicts effectively.

Order

As part of this project, Consensus worked with our partner CRISP to develop a mediation program specifically tailored to the needs of Iraqi participants. To best prepare the trainers for their role, we organized a comprehensive onboarding program. The aim of this program was to convey our approach, the didactics and the content of the internationally and academically certified mediation curriculum. Particular emphasis was placed on incorporating the expertise of the local trainers into the training process.

The challenge

Throughout the training process, Consensus acted as an advisory partner to ensure that the program was tailored to the needs of the target group and met the highest quality standards. This close collaboration was crucial to the successful implementation of the curriculum. A structured feedback process was carried out after completion of the training. The feedback collected was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the training and identify starting points for future improvements.

Result

Through the training, young Iraqis were successfully trained as mediators. This project is helping to strengthen conflict resolution skills in the region in the long term and create a basis for the development of professional mediation practice in Iraq.

Effects

The cooperation with CRISP and the use of the consensus curriculum have shown the importance of an integrative approach that combines local expertise with internationally proven methods.
